Cavendish - Dartmouth 321 km, 4 hours - Driving. 26.1 km, 1:03 hours - Sailing

After we both had meetings this morning, we had to drive to a ferry and leave PEI
for Nova Scotia, so we didn't do a lot of sightseeing. We got to go on another
ferry though. Mary Jane is getting quite bored with the usual drive on-drive off
ones now - after being hoisted aboard the Bella in a container!

We didn't get going until nearly 11, but we still found a place to have lunch at
St Peters Bay. You can't see it in the photo, but there were a lot of buoys in the
water and we are pretty sure that are mussel or oyster farms as this is a big industry
in PEI. From there we tried to find some bison as there is a wildlife park in this
part of the island, but we didn't have time (or the inclination) to go in and we
couldn't see them from the road. Imagine there are bison in the fields above!

Then it was down to the MV Confederation - the Wood Islands/Caribou Ferry as we left PEI behind. This is
pretty much the usual drive on-drive off ferry, but Mary Jane was directed into
the bottom hold (again) so we had a long climb from A deck! The pilot had a very
narrow gap to get out of, but since they probably do this 4 times a day we got through
unscathed.

It was just over an hour on the ferry and we were off again to Dartmouth through
Truro (again) so it was a road we had used before. Dartmouth is across the bay from
Halifax - the capital of Nova Scotia. We are staying here because we are a bit cheap
- the hotels in Halifax are twice the price of the hotels here! The fun thing is
that there is a cute little harbour ferry that crosses between Halifax and Dartmouth, which
we checked out after having pizza for dinner. We worked out how to use this and
will probably go into Halifax tomorrow as the weather is nice. The propeller above
is the actual propeller from a ice-breaker which was assisting an oil tanker crossing
the Northwest passage in 1969. On the way this happened to the icebreaker's propeller,
but she carried on until they got to open water. Tough ship!
