A long drive today - with an extra bit of exercise for Mary Jane thrown in - but we
have our nice Oasis here in Forilon National Park and we have even got some work done!
Well Hild has been doing invoicing for her various peeps while Rob has been mucking
about with web pages, but that is close to work in his book.... We don't have power
in our little Oasis, so we will hold off on writing the full page until a bit later.

One of the fun things we have been doing while driving is reading bits from an old
CAA Canada Driving Guide that Norah has loaned to us last year. Today, driving along
the south shore of the Gaspé peninsula we read about a high lookout point above
Carleton sur Mer. We hadn't seen it noted much, but because we were were actually
looking as we drove through Carleton we found the signs to Mont St-Joseph and took
off up the road. And up it was! Poor Mary Jane - the slope was between 10 and 30%
and she had to go into first gear for parts of it! A lovely view at the top, with
an amazing church. It was just as slow (maybe even slower!) going down - also in
first gear a lot of the way with careful use of the brakes - but Hild made it in
style. Although it did lower her average speed a lot - 9.2 km in 20 minutes!

Next it was a fun spot for lunch - in Bonaventure next to a lighthouse with a wooden fisherman on
some rocks. We had to perch on the rocks to make our tea, but it was worth it as the
tea went down very well. Hild went up the lighthouse that turned out to be a small-
scale version for younger people, but she squeezed her way up and back down!

We then drove out to Percé to see a very distinctive rock first noted by Champlain
when he arrived here in 1603. At the time, he reported just one hole in the rock, but
by 1758 there were two. However, part of the rock has collapsed since then and
there is just one hole now! It is a very popular site for nesting birds and
there are plenty of boat tours that will take people out there, but we were happy
with a picture from the land. Besides, we had to get to our Oasis!

And here it is - our little Oasis in Forillon National Park. Not as high as the
one in Terra Nova, but a lovely view over the bay - and almost hidden from the other side.
We settled in a made dinner before doing some invoicing before the power runs out.
