Stavanger to Aberdeen
|
We thought we would be in Aberdeen by now, but we ended up having half a
day of work and relaxation at Quality Hotel in Stavanger. Paid by SAS, so
that was nice. They also paid for breakfast buffet at the hotel. Hild tried
a bit of everything including porridge - just to see what real porridge
is like. It wasn't quite how we make it - a bit runnier than ours - but nice
all the same.

Hild felt very at home when she found that they provide a bottle of fish oil
in the breakfast buffet. Most Norwegians grew up having to take cod liver oil every
day (some because their parents told them too). Not my favourite thing,
and funny to find it here at a hotel buffet!
They also provided tiny little shot glasses for this purpose. Ha ha ha!

|
SAS also gave us a 700 Norwegian kroner (GBP 50) meal allowance.
With 350 kroner each we had enough for a burger and a pop.
We had a 12-o-clock checkout time, and the chef was kind enough to open
the kitchen so we could enjoy lunch before leaving for the airport.
A nice tip for a nice man.

The taxi driver that took us back to the hotel was not impressed. When we
gave him the SAS voucher he snorted "ugh one of them!" and threw the voucher
on the floor. He complained that he won't get paid for six months. We apologised
but he stayed grumpy. If he had been polite about it we may have given him a
tip for his trouble. Not this time, mate!
There was some hassle checking in because their system didn't know what to
do with luggage tags for bags returning after a cancelled flight. In the end
we lined up for human help because the machines were stumped. The man behind
the counter sorted it out quickly and we could move through security and find
our gate.
We were happy to finally board the plane and take off from Stavanger.

Our SAS flight was 533 km long and took 51 minutes. Max altitude was 34,000 feet
or 10,360 metres. It was good to land in Aberdeen one day late.
We found Percy safe and sound at the parking lot where we left him.
It is clear: Home is where you park your Percy!
After paying
GBP 15 for the extra day's parking (good deal!), we drove to our familiar Premier Inn
in Westhill outside Aberdeen. Like returning home, really. A quick walk to
Tesco next door to stock up on groceries and we were ready for more
adventures tomorrow.
