Rob and Hild had another visit with Janet, briefing her about today's
activities.
Since Hild left the valley, many more marked trails have popped up.
Last time she "hiked" up this mountain, she was being carried. Mum,
Daddy, and three sisters were enjoying a hike across the mountain
to the Homme village. Adelheid remembers clearly that the cat
followed them, which she normally wouldn't do. There was much fear
and discussion on what to do, and in the end they carried the cat to
make sure it didn't get lost. Chances are that the cat had been
this route a hundred times before, but we didn't chance it.
Anyway, we will climb up to the top at 634 metres above sea level.
It wasn't the steepest or longest hike, but there was still much
huffing and puffing.
After much climbing we reached a flat bit where we could have a rest.
The narrow and steep gap with a beautiful view of the valley below
makes you want to stand away from the edge.
Old stories warn us that if seven brothers marry seven sisters
and travel past these mountains, this gap will widen and Einang
will crumble and fall. Sounds like a small probability - so we
kept going.
When we got to the top of Einang we found a perfect lunch spot.
The sun was shining and the view over Otra river and village of Homme
was beautiful. Sandwiches and cups of tea and coffee taste so
much better when you picnic like this!
We played with the settings on Hild's camera. In this case,
maybe "Portrait" setting didn't quite work.
When we were done, we had walked 4.10 km with 380 metre ascent. We did it in
1:50 hours including a 30-minute lunch break.
Some of the flowers Adelheid had planted on our family graves had
not survived a late frost. Therefore, we bought some new ones and
planted them at the graves at Valle Cemetery. In addition to Hild's
dad, Olav, there is also Gudrun, Olav's twin sister and his uncle Ketil.
Finally there is Olav O. and Gyro K., Olav's uncle and aunt.
We stopped by the front steps of Valle Church where Rob and Hild
got married 30 years ago - almost to the day. On 24th of June 1995
the weather was almost the same as today the 21st of June 2025.
We took some extra photos to recreate the day - way back when and
we will post them on our 30th wedding anniversary.
In the afternoon we stopped by Hege and Eirik at Rygnestad Gard.
We got to see the Indian Running Ducks now our from under the heat
lamp and basking in their duck pond. Hege had to put them in the
water, but they seemed to love it when they got in there.
We enjoyed another BBQ dinner at Hege and Eirik's. There was home-grown
beef (formerly known and Siri the heifer). With all the delicious trimmings,
Rob went for 3-way potato: mashed potato with potato salad on a potato wrap.
He considered sprinkling some sausage on it, but decided against it and settled
for some crispy onion topping. As we all know by now: Rob loves potatoes.
Our day ended with Adelheid fixing the water hose in one more location
that had sprung a leak. The water was yet again running in the bathtub
down the hill. Cows were happy again!
