Sasksatoon - Edmonton (547 km. 5.75 hours. Elevation maximum 736 metres)
|
Not too early a start today as we were tired after working late last night.
We filled up with gas on the way out from Saskatoon and had a pleasant drive
through gently rolling hills until we got to Lloydminster. This is a fun town that
straddles the Alberta/Saskatchewan border - literally. The border runs right down
route 17 in the middle of the town. We had a quick walk for the photo-op -
standing with a "foot-in-each-province" - and then drove on into Alberta.

The next stop was one of those "world's biggest" statues that seem to be a feature of rural North America. The
Vegreville Pysanka (Ukranian Easter Egg) is a very special roadside statue made with thousands of metal
pieces and is really quite special. It is in a nice park as well, where we stopped and made tea to have with our lunch.

Then, another roadside statue lead to another fun stop. The largest sausage in Mundare
was built by a sausage company started by a Ukranian immigrant that now has grown into a
sausage empire! The statue is just on the main street where the original shop is still
selling sausage so we had to go in and buy one - and then check it out straight away- Nam-nam!

|
After that we hot-footed it to our hotel in Edmonton and straight to Walmart for some
potato salad to eat with the sausage for dinner! We have a nice room with just one king-size bed
(as opposed to two queens, which is the usual arrangement) so there is some more space than usual.
The problem is the small fridge - not big enough for the 4l milk cartons, but this seems to be a common issue.
I guess no-one appreciates milk the way we do...

Coming up: All work and no play. We have planned a day of work so we are staying an extra day in Edmonton to put in some of those billable hours.
