A work day today - as planned - with Hild doing accounting from the
bed (but very nicely arranged in the bed, of course) and Rob replying
to a few emails and editing some documents from the desk. Rob had
the desk because that is where we plug the kettle in to make tea and
with Hild's computer being a bit temperamental, we didn't want to
keep unplugging her computer to make tea......

Work was all morning and then after lunch too, so we needed a walk by
mid -afternoon and took a short stroll outside the hotel - where we
had a nice view of downtown Calgary. then we saw jack-rabbits again.
The only other time we had seen these guys
was in a suburb in Edmonton - and now again in a suburb in
Calgary! There are clearly city animals here in Alberta.
|
|
On our drive downtown we spotted many cool-looking buildings - such
as "The Bow" a crescent shaped skyskraper, the higgledy-piggledy "Telus Sky",
and the Calgary Tower.
|
|
As it was so nice to walk outside, we dumped any more ideas of work
and drove into downtown Calgary to walk around the Bow river and
catch a movie! We had planned the movie for a while, but it hadn't
quite worked out for one reason or another. However, today the stars
were clearly aligned as there was a Cineplex in a mall just where we
could get to the river-walk around Prince's Island Park - too good an
opportunity to miss and we didn't!
The park has fun bridges, nice river scape, parks, concert stage,
cafe, art pieces, and playgrounds. We loved the swing set shaped like a
cowboy hat!

|
The walk wasn't too long (as urban walks go) but it was nice to cross
the Peace Bridge and the Center St bridge, circumventing the island
on the city side.
As can be expected, there were some nice-looking, high-end condos
overlooking the river and the Peace Bridge. Very photogenic. Thanks to
Banaf, Justin and Fiona for recommending we go see and walk it. The
route took us along the Bow river for many nice views of the downtown.
|
|
Just our luck, the footbridge under the Center St bridge was closed
for construction and our alternative route went along the top bridge.
A day is not perfect until we have to climb lots and lots of stairs!
|
|
The walk across Centre St bridge gave us another fun view of the Calgary Tower,
from underneath a lion statue... A quick swing through Chinatown lead us back to
Prince's Island itself.
|
|
And then onto the island itself to walk around
that. Lots of nice things to see, including goslings and
ducklings. There were some signs up about how they City was working
to create a wetland on the island, but we figured they could just
"leave it to the beavers" as they know what they are doing!
Thanks, Banaf, for suggesting we go for a walk on this island.

Then it was time for the Movie - Dr Strange in the Multiverse of
Madness. Wednesday night is not a big movie night in Calgary, it was nearly a
personal screening for the two of use. We shared the cinema with 4 other people!
We needed something to eat, but didn't feel like rushing
through something in a restaurant so we got hot dogs and popcorn - a
well-balanced meal - meat and four veg. At leased it balanced well on Hild's knees!
|
|
A 3-D movie calls for special glasses, which are always fun. Now at her age,
Hild then ended up with wearing multiple glasses for multiple occasions: 3-movie,
sunglasses, reading glasses. Always prepared!
The movie was a lot of fun as we expected, although not being
completely up to date on all of the spin-off series we didn't quite
get the reason for the baddy being a baddy. Sort of usual for us,
who are really only into the movies and it didn't spoil the fun.

An early night though (so this is being posted a day late) as we are
off to see dinosaur fossils tomorrow and that means an early start.
