Quantock Hills - in the sun
Third time lucky! We managed to visit Quantock Hills in the sun this time.
These two photos compare the view on a sunny day next to the foggy day in November 2024.
Our walk across the hills was beautiful. We could see for miles and were stunned by the view.
We could see all they way back home to Burnham-on-Sea and we had a clear view of Hinckley Point nuclear power station.
The sun was nice and warm, but it was still early morning and there was ice on the puddles. Brrrr.
Hild enjoyed looking for sheep. We had seen them in the distance, but where did they disappear to?
Aha - there they are! The lambing season had just started - as announced on signs along the trail.
We saw some small lambs. So cute.
And suddenly the sheep were everywhere. All of them ignored us and went about their day.
We spontaneously changed our route and dipped down into one of the valleys.
On our way down the hill Rob spotted a real holly tree. How exciting. However,
later we realised that they are everywhere.
At the bottom of the valley we followed a little stream. In the end
we had to make the perilous crossing jumping from slippery rock to
slippery rock. Shoes and socks remained dry.
There is ivy growing everywhere. We found this one tree which was fallen over
and very dead. It looked like it had been choked to death by so much ivy!
Our lunch break back at Percy included giant sausage rolls (thanks to Liz)
and a cup of tea, of course.
We were so happy to finally visit the Quantock Hills on a sunny day.
We'll be back!
Postscript: A good day for hiking boots.
